ROMARM and the US company Northrop Grumman have signed a partnership for advanced radar systems

The implementation of the transatlantic cooperation in the field of defense became a reality yesterday, July 1, 2025 with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding with the American company Northrop Grumman Corporation, one of the world's leading military suppliers, to collaborate in providing a ground radar solution to the Romanian Air Force.

The delegation of Northrop Grumman, led by Mr. Michael Hahn, Senior Director of Leading next-gen ground radar programs, was welcomed by ROMARM's management at the company's headquarters, where the Memorandum was signed.

ROMARM and the American company Northrop Grumman will provide a ground radar solution to the Romanian Air Force

The agreement aims to co-produce in Romania the G/ATOR (Ground/Air Task-Oriented Radar) mobile radar system, a cutting-edge technology that will strengthen the operational and surveillance capabilities of the armed forces.

The radar will provide advanced capabilities and performance against today's most sophisticated threats, while offering interoperability with command and control systems used by NATO countries, including the United States.

“Our industrial partnership with ROMARM will deliver a proven, ready-now solution to help strengthen Romania’s security against evolving threats,” said Greg Teitelbaum, vice president, land and maritime sensors at Northrop Grumman. The radar systems will feature 360-degree long-range surveillance and fire control capabilities for air and missile defense, supported by secure and interoperable software.

According to Northrop, "This multi-mission aerial surveillance system can detect, identify, and track aerial threats which are common to combat environments. These include cruise missiles, remotely piloted aircraft and vehicles, as well as various types of rockets, artillery, mortars."

This collaboration marks a significant step in strengthening Romania's defense capabilities through access to Northrop Grumman's advanced radar technology.
